Buck McVaney

Southern Plains District Manager

Industrial Kiln & Dryer Group

Buck McVaney joined the Industrial Kiln & Dryer Group (IKD) team in 2015, stepping into the role of Southern Plains District Manager. IKD’s Southern Plains District includes Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana. His previous experience includes working in the oil fields as a land-based rig mover, then transitioning into offshore projects. He also worked as Fabrication Manager for a glass recycling facility in Houston, TX, and served a 7-year tour of duty in the U.S. Army as a Combat Engineer – he attained the rank of sergeant while serving. McVaney earned an associate’s degree from the University of Maryland while in the Army.

He has taken part in these key projects since coming to IKD:

  • Shell section replacement – Lightweight Aggregate company in Erwinville, LA, 10’ dia. x 100’ long
  • Shell section replacement – Lightweight Aggregate facility in Frazier Park, CA, 10’ dia. x 20’ long
  • Tire replacement – Fertilizer company in Pasadena, TX, 13’ tire
  • Largest size gear replacement – Lightweight Aggregate company in Erwinville, LA, 14’ gear

He has worked a few unique jobs, such as the one for the fertilizer facility in Pasadena, TX – six months of planning and coordination went into replacing approximately 20’ length of a 12’ diameter shell, on the second floor of an enclosed structure. It was labor intensive and required complex rigging to get segmented shell sections and the 16,000 lb. tire into the building and into position. McVaney expressed “tremendous respect for the crew, the project manager, and plant personnel and management team”. McVaney has been an instructor for IKDU 4 times, and has taught in-house/onsite training, as well. He considers himself to be “always evolving, always problem-solving.” McVaney lives in League City, TX with his family, and in his spare time enjoys hunting, salt-water fishing, golf, and history.
