The frac sand industry seems to be getting back on its feet. Plenty of positive news from across the industry this week! Smart Sand announced that it has entered into a new multi-year Master Product Purchase Agreement with EQT Production Company.
With the goal to expand its electrification, the San Antonio-based fleet placed an initial order of 10 Hyliion Hybrid Electric units earlier this spring.
Second quarter operating hours are public now in the US mining sector, including for frac sand mines.
"In our energy businesses, improved commodities pricing is generating some positive industry movement and increased equipment utilization as we are ramping up to put a second hydraulic fracturing fleet to work in mid-August," Chief Executive Officer Arty Straehla said. "We are also beginning to experience increased market activity in our sand business."

Settled customer dispute and received $128 million of consideration, including $90 million in cash. Second quarter revenue totaled $317.3 million. Overall volumes increased 15% sequentially with growth in both Industrial & Specialty Products and Oil & Gas Segments.
The Company is pleased to report that its Q2 2021 frac and industrial sand sales were 85,242 tons, representing a 42% increase from Q1 2021 sales of 59,970 tons and a 61% increase from Q4 2020.

“Australia has several quality silica sand projects that are either in production or progressing through the exploration and development process,” he continued.
The company, in its latest quarterly report, says that the next stage for its Arrowsmith North silica sand project will be to issue tender specifications for processing equipment so that those can be supplied as soon as possible after a decision to mine is made.
