Motivated by the innovations that revolutionized the foundry industry in the mid-seventies, Michael pursued a degree in metallurgical engineering from the University of Alabama. After receiving his engineering degree in 1984, he went on to acquire a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Realizing his interest was in the innovation of industrial plants, Michael joined The Mouat Company in 1987, which had been the leading engineering and construction firm in the foundry industry since the early 1970’s. In 1997, he was promoted to Vice President of the foundry division where he served in sales and construction management. Seeing the opportunity for diversification in 2008, Michael lead the company into the emerging frac sand industry and mineral processing industry. Both industries built on the company’s prior engineering and construction experience in designing precisely controlled material handling systems and sand systems. In 2010, he purchased the company where he remains President and CEO. Over the last decade, Mouat has become a leader in the design build business for sand plants, transloads and mineral processing facilities, with customers including Halliburton, EOG Resources, Preferred Sands, Fairmount Minerals, Twin Eagle and others.
